New “Bike Line” Debuts for Club World Cup Visitors — With 2026 in Sight

We launched a community-powered campaign to welcome visitors to the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 games — and it's setting the stage for even bigger things in 2026.

Just in time for the Sounders vs Botofogo kickoff game, neighborhood volunteers from Ballard-Fremont Greenways and Downtown Greenways came together to create a vibrant new 6-mile “Bike Line” — a scenic and comfortable bike route connecting Gilman Soccer Field in Ballard to Lumen Field. Painted pavement markings and new wayfinding signs now guide riders along one of Seattle’s most pleasant bike connections — perfect for both visitors and locals looking to avoid car traffic and experience the city on two wheels.

The project, supported with design input from Toole Design, took less than $2,000 in supplies and just one morning of volunteer work to complete. It’s a simple idea with big potential: a proof-of-concept for how the city could scale up this approach ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, showing off Seattle’s commitment to sustainability and active transportation on the world stage.

More Than a Line — A Vision for Safer, People-First Streets

While fun and festive, the Ballard Bike Line is also part of a broader vision: a Seattle where biking is safe, intuitive, and joyful for people of all ages and abilities.

Research shows that 60% of people would like to bike more, but a lack of knowledge about safe and connected routes remains the #1 barrier. By making routes more visible and welcoming — especially during major events — we can break down that barrier and invite thousands more into the movement for healthier, more livable streets.

Seattle Neighborhood Greenways is committed to advocating for a citywide network of low-stress, people-first bike routes, and we believe this moment offers a powerful opportunity to bring that vision to life.
